A blog is basically a digital format of a diary, generally the concept is the same as diary entries of which content is added on a regular basis. Reflection of my blog consist of several observations of advantage, mainly content discussed in lectures being transcribed into blog so as to reflect later on, also the use of fun and interesting links to basically anywhere on the net. Analysis of my blog consists mainly of content spoken within lectures, me trying to fathom some kind of comprehension and writing it within my blog, my 3 chosen web blogs consist of Web 2.0, carving up the world and building a web page. The whole concept associating with blogs is networking, it is basically a free API of which anyone can customize with there own content, from the blog site itself and also through the use of sourcing data from other sites such as flickr. As far as audience is concerned, never really gave that much thought, as the blog initially was conceived in my eyes as obviously an assessment item, but also a tool of reflection towards content of lectures, basis of which can be looked upon with final examination, however, initially when conceiving blog and linking it to twitter, adding content weekly has seen my following on twitter increase, reason being content is added to my updates on twitter, of which generates interest from fellow peers, hence they add me. This clearly is explanatory to the concept of social media, the use of web 2.0 API, linking each other, allowing content to be amplified in a manner useful with a search engine or hyperlinks approach, to which debilitates ones interests, therefore allowing a some what useful, educational, commercial and of course social or the aspect of fun, being the result of such efficient tools such as a blog.
Of course once a interest of topic is found, there is the concept of RSS feed, of which captures the blogs url and sources it in a destination to which you set the feed, igoogle was my choosing.
“In computing, an abstract data type (ADT) or abstract data structure is a mathematical model for a certain class of data structures that have similar behavior; or for certain data types of one or more programming languages that have similar semantics”. A good example of this consists of the API Pipes and its use of abstract varibles through use of fetch and store options in its tool bar, of which collects a range of data and correlates or mash’s up data in one single API.
We also looked at the concept of data visualization, the way in which data is generated specifically to endulge or interest the audience, through the use of interaction such as the example given Oakland crimespotting. Scale, colour, shape, position and movement are all elements attractive to humans when interacting with data.
Starting this assignment one decided a geo-narrative would be of interest with much thought into structure, deciding on a type of integration of my day with display of routes undertaken via google maps and displaying images of interaction with people and places, found this very interesting. Beginning this task presented many challenges, firstly with introduction to Google maps a Application Program Interface displaying map content of the entire world using satellite imagery, downloading a map of the source or template of which my sequence of images would be linked, obviously working in Canberra and living in Queanbeyan to present a interactive day would entail a map with content of both.
Disappointed with one aspect of either google or the Tumblr site, not sure which one as failing to work it out was frustrating, administered a process on google of which consisted of signing up for a google account and also a API key of which was linked to moviemakem.tumblr.com, cutting and pasting the key from google maps to tumblr text/html and removing the true source, so as indicating the false, was constantly reminded of message resembling the API key doe’s not belong to this account, endless hours playing with this, one decided to just cut html directly out of my google maps template in link and paste it in tumblr therefore allowing a link, taking notice in the outline for this assignment it suggests attaching images and text to specific locations in google maps, hence the method used has achieved that, however it was disappointing not getting the result expected with google map API key linked directly with tumblr.
Basically, the emphasis deciding a layout of activity comprising the movements and interactions of my day lay claim to a reality type script, popular in recent years with television, firstly recording my movements on Tuesday the 19Th of May, from the moment of arising from slumber in the morning, driving all day, comprising of my work criteria to attending a lecture. Throughout that day documenting text and images from a Nikon D80, was equipped with material for my project.
Adding routes on my maps, indeed one should explain my maps, beginning the google API, obviously insert google maps address and presented with a link to my maps, it is here of which creating your own interactive map is conceived. Naming my map A interactive day with me, zooming down on the area of canberra/Queanbeyan and using the tools in the top left hand corner, such as place marks and lines to map out your route, was able to generate with the content of 19 of May, my project. Adding images, there is a link within the rich text of the google maps API on my template were inserting html of the image stored at flickr, allowing images to be networked. The two main examples given with networking consist of the link between my blog www.moviemakem.tumblr.com and images transferred from www.Flickr.com/shanewintour.
Lecture consisted of Multiplicity, conducted by Michael Honey, as you would expect, the name is a inherent coincidence of the subject. Multiplicity is a mechanism of using information and resources from an infinite range of sources, thus creating a resourceful conclusion on analogue and digital platforms. The entimology of computers is digital, meaning they are very efficient on a range of repetative task’s and calculations, humans are the opposite, basis consists of a relation to web 2.0, the platform or infrastructure, API is generated and discrete (bits of information) data is captured from an infinite amount of subjects, for example cars in the video presentation 1k project, of which projected multiple cars doing extradinary manouvres.
Today’s lecture involved web 2.0, it appears to be some kind of platform used across the net, could not really get a definitive answer and still trying to get my head around it, however somethings to note include the tremendous use of the application across the web. Also the interest in web 2.0 became apparent in 2004, peaking in 2007 via google survey, it is American born and describes the perceived second generation.
Tangible qualities of web 2.0, is the user participation, this is were one will dissect what 2.0 is, networks such as flickr and face book rely on people participation, hence they supply the application programming interface and rely on user content, causing a band wagon effect that has seen both companies forged into monopolies. Decentralization, User contributed value, collaborative filtering were all mentioned in lecture indicating facets such as the more people that use the API’s, the more valuable it becomes, tracking consumer behaviour through sites such as amazon, network effects, how positive feedback can get a flow on effect from other consumers, for example this product has this rating 45% or other purchaser’s that bought this product also bought this etc, basically we are the web, and web 2.0 is a brilliant way of capturing us.
The long tail is basically a mechanism for gaining a grasp of marketing on the web, beginning with a lot of volume and drawing out to less, it indicates popular content to less popular, the benefit with this is companies such as Amazon can sell content online with infinite space, whereas the local book store is less inclined to store as much content due to space deprivation, therefore making them less dominant in the market. The Internet also has the benefit of being instant worldwide, never out of stock and companies such as itunes have six billion in sales and control about 70% of the market, web 2.0 is a huge contributor to this as it monitors patterns and buying behaviours.
Re-mixability is the process to content data easily, transfered =API’s open source mash-ups XML. Some key words relevant to web 2.0 are participation, visability, economy, design, standardization, remixability and convergence. Alot of applications have a rich user experience, are easy to use, pleasurable and with improved applications/interfaces are increasingly like desktop applications, web 2.0 is linking people.
